Happy New Year! I hope you had a magical Christmas break with your family? I loved having all five of my children back at home for Christmas and spent some time over the holidays reflecting back on 2017.
What an amazing year it was! I met so many gorgeous families last year and it was a privilege to photograph the precious moments in so many people’s lives!
Thanks to you, my wonderful clients and followers for enabling me to do my work, which I love so much!
Exciting plans for 2018
There are lots of changes going on here at Photojos Photography – not least that I am in the process of rebranding to Jocelyn Conway Photography (you may have seen me share my new logo on Instagram and Facebook?).
Yes, after ten years as Photojos, I’m having a little brand refresh. Do let me know what you think!
Photography Convention News
And now, with January already in full swing, it’s only a matter of days before I’m off to my favourite photography event of the year – the annual Societies Photographic Convention.
This event is the largest of its kind in Europe. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know that I attend every year without fail.
Sharing my expertise in newborn photography
Last year – for the first time – as well as a delegate, I also was a guest speaker at the event. And I’m pleased to say that I’ve been invited to return this year. In fact, I’ll be speaking on two occasions.
- On Friday 12th January, I’ll be sharing my expertise with fellow newborn photographers and revealing ways that they can ‘Maximise each pose and make their photo sessions easier’.
- And on Saturday 13th January, I’ll be speaking about ‘Safety while working with newborns and pregnant women’ – a crucially important topic for all maternity and baby photographers.
The photographers who attend the Conference and the guest lectures I’ve run in the past are a great bunch of people. I’m really looking forward to meeting up with so many of them again next week.
Judging the best photography of the year
I’ve also been invited to return and be part of The Societies’ prestigious judging panel. So, I’ll also be working as a photography judge for two days during the Conference – as I did last year.
Together with my fellow judges, I’ll be reviewing some of the very best photography of the year. Photographers from around the world enter their work for judging – The Societies is such an important organisation in the photography industry, and the standard keeps getting better and better every year! It’s wonderful to get the chance to review such creative and beautiful photography.
Awarding professional photography qualifications
The annual Convention is when The Societies decide which photographers will be awarded their highly-coveted photography qualifications.
Photographers have the chance to enter and apply for their Licentiate, Associateship or Fellowship accreditations, and I’ll be part of the international judging team assessing the work that has been submitted this year. And, I’ll also be judging the popular 20×16″ print photography competition.
It’s exciting to be part of all this. After all, it was just a couple of years ago, at Conference 2016, that I had had all my fingers and toes crossed hoping to achieve my Fellowship – the highest judged award level that a photographer can achieve.
I know how nerve-wracking it can be waiting to get the results and to learn whether you’ve been successful, among such stiff competition!
I’m up for an International Photography Award!
I’m also thrilled to be in contention for an award at the Conference myself again.
I’ve previously won ‘Bump to Baby Photographer of the Year (2015) and ‘Pictorial and Fine Art Photographer of the Year’ (2014). This time, I’ve been shortlisted – actually, for the fourth year in a row – for the ‘Portrait Avant Garde Photographer of the Year’ award.
I entered this image featuring my daughter Scarlett.
I’m one of just three photographers in the running, nominated from thousands of entries! Keep everything crossed for me! I’ll find out if I’ve been successful at the Conference Awards evening on the 13th January.
Looking ahead to the event of the year
It really is such an honour and a privilege to be asked to speak at the Conference again, as well as to be part of the expert judging panel, and be up for a Photographer of the Year award myself!
It is such a pleasure to be part of this brilliant photography event. I literally can’t wait for it to start next week!
While I’m there I’ll also be investing in my own professional development – attending masterclasses to learn new skills and photography techniques which I’ll be able to use in my portrait work for you, my clients.
And, I’m on the lookout for beautiful new photo products, from the world’s very best suppliers, which I plan to offer you later this year. I’ll keep you posted on what I find!
I’m taking bookings now for February and March photoshoots. If you are expecting a baby soon and would like to book a maternity, newborn session or portrait session with me, please call me on 07929 768371, email me at email@example.com or contact me via this form.
‘Pictorial and Fine Art Photographer of the Year 2014’!
Being a parent is the greatest thing in the world.
I treasure looking back at those precious moments that pass so quickly.
Book now and I will make beautiful artistic Newborn, Child and Family Portraiture for you and your family to cherish for Generations. xxx
